Roberto Guardia is a geotechnical engineer with 30+ years of experience in tunneling, microtunneling, and trenchless construction as solutions for water, wastewater, and transportation-related projects. Roberto has been involved in the construction and rehabilitation of 150+ tunnel and trenchless projects in the US and Latin America including railroad and highway tunnels. Roberto has extensive experience in design, plans and specifications, and engineering review for trenchless construction.

In this presentation, Roberto reviews engineering parameters to determine the stability of the unsupported tunnel face and reviews trenchless methods and instances for their application including Pipe Jacking, Auger Boring, Pilot Tube, Microtunneling, Horizontal Directional Drilling and Direct Pipe. Attendees will learn when each trenchless method is or is not applicable based on different soil and rock conditions.
