Surface & Marine Geophysics

Geophysical testing is becoming an increasingly important part of the geotechnical investigation toolbox. From avoiding ground disturbance to connecting boreholes on large sites, a large range of techniques can make it easier to get the information you need.

ConeTec has over 10 years of experience in conducting geophysical testing over a host of projects. The presentation will briefly remark on ConeTec’s technical capabilities, before describing a few relevant case studies. Topics include measuring Vs100 in slow Bay Mud, geophysical profiling for a new subway tunnel and using cutting edge techniques to obtain data in areas not suitable for in-situ testing.

Speaker:

Mat obtained his degree in physics and astronomy from the University of Victoria. He began working as a geophysicist 10 years ago, starting out in mineral exploration using resistivity and induced polarization techniques to discover drilling targets for precious metals. Mat started at ConeTec in 2013, working out of the ConeTec office in Vancouver as a professional geophysicist. In his 7 years with ConeTec, he has focused on geotechnical applications for seismic geophysical techniques such as MASW, seismic refraction and downhole seismic as well as shallow bathymetric surveys in tailings ponds.
